NIUA focuses on research, knowledge management, policy, advocacy, and capacity building on urban development and management to address and develop sustainable,inclusive, and productive urban ecosystems in the country.
It has emerged as a thought leader and knowledge hub on urbanism in India through collaborations and partnerships with Indian and International organizations.

Projects
NIUA works on a wide array of projects. It delves into various aspects of urban development through these projects that support and augment the Institute’s vision of transforming the urban landscape of India.
These projects emcompass areas such as spatial growth, demographic trends, development of toolkits and frameworks, municipal finance, climate change, water, sanitation and hygiene.
It develops toolkits and frameworks, prepare city master plans and conservation plans.
