  • Amit Prothi
    Amit Prothi is an urban planning and development expert with nearly 25 years of professional experience across 12 countries including the USA, India and China. He is trained in urban planning, landscape architecture and architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, UMass (Amherst) and SPA (Delhi). Mr. Prothi has worked on projects and studies related to environmental planning, urban policy, land use planning, natural resource management, flood management, disaster risk reduction, housing, and community development, for clients including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and numerous local and national governments. Previously, as part of the 100 Resilient Cities program, he was responsible for managing the preparation of resilience strategies across several Asian cities including Seoul and Chennai. In his current role as Senior Advisor to the Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center, Mr. Prothi works with communities to develop adaptation solutions addressing increasing risks from climate change.

  • Pranjali Deshpande
    Ms Pranjali Deshpande is an Architect and Urban planner. She works on sustainable mobility projects with various government agencies. She is currently working as Domestic expert, Sustainable mobility for the CITIIS program launched by MoHUA, AFD and NIUA. She also works as an independent professional on various projects initiated by the World Bank FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office- former DFID). Prior to this, she worked with the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy on street design, Bus Rapid Transit, Parking policy & Transit Oriented Development policy. Pranjali is also an active member of various government committees that aim to improve sustainable mobility in Pune. She is a co-author for Pune street design guidelines and contributor for BRT guidelines by the Indian Road Congress. She has also participated as a trainer in multiple capacity development programs for government officials. She teaches urban transport to architecture and urban design students.

  • Vidhya Mohankumar
    Vidhya Mohankumar is an architect and urban designer with fifteen years of work experience in India, Ireland and the United States. Vidhya’s work is focused on creating urban spaces that are people-oriented and centred around transit as part of a sustainable development agenda that she is passionate about. In 2011, Vidhya founded Urban Design Collective (UDC), a collaborative platform for architects, urban designers and planners to create liveable and sustainable cities through community engagement. In 2015, she took on the role of Governing Board member with the US-based Center for the Living City. The Center was established in 2005 in collaboration with Jane Jacobs and with the purpose of enhancing the understanding of the complexity of contemporary urban life.

  • Akanksha Laroiya
    Akanksha Laroiya is a Regional Planner by profession. Her current role in the CITIIS Program Management Unit is to co-lead Monitoring and Evaluation Component of the Program. In addition, she is responsible to support in overall operations; conduct technical research; coordinate with stakeholders; and assist in daily tasks with regards to program implementation. Previously, she was associated with the Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi, where her key responsibilities included data collection; performing spatial and statistical analyses and conducting research on ‘Sustainable Development’ and its varied aspects. She has co-authored a book titled ‘Cities and the Sustainable Development Goal 11’. Furthermore, she was involved in the preparation of Integrated Cluster Action Plans under Shyama Prasad Mukherji Urban Mission for five clusters in Rajasthan. She has done her Master of Planning (with specialisation in Regional Planning) with Gold Medal and Bachelor of Physical Planning with General Proficiency Prize, from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.

    Jitendra is the Procurement Specialist for CITIIS at NIUA. He has worked with various organisations which include CPWD, UNDP, IPE Global and MoRD. As part of his long career, he has also travelled to several states in India and worked with people at the grassroots level. He studied Civil Engineering at MNIT, Jaipur and IIT, Roorkee.

    Alfred Peter, is the founder of The Atelier, a leading design studio in the field of landscape architecture and urbanism. Since its founding in 1985, the firm has successfully carried out about 100 large-scale development, infrastructure and public space projects. The landscape integration of the tramway in Strasbourg, France established us as experts in public space projects that combine mobility and urban quality.     Gurmeet S Rai is a conservation architect based in New Delhi. She established CRCI India Pvt Ltd, a leading firm in heritage practice in India in 1996. CRCI has been involved in the preparation of conservation and management plans for a number of world heritage sites across the country. CRCI has also provided expertise in Nepal, Myanmar and in several states of India. Gurmeet is recognized for the high quality of conservation works she has undertaken on numerous protected and unprotected monuments across India. She was awarded ‘Award of Distinction’ for two projects by UNESCO under Asia Pacific Architectural Heritage Awards in the year 2002 and 2004 for demonstrating community inclusive conservation programs.

    Co-CEO of Genre et Ville with Urban Designer Pascale Lapalud. An urban anthropologist, Chris co-founded Genre et Ville in 2012. An expert in urban innovation and more specifically in strategies and tools to promote gender equality in the territories. She develops an ethno-socio-urban approach that addresses the causes and effects of discrimination, notably by questioning normative roles and functions.

  • Indrashish Chakraborty
    Indrashish is a State Program Officer for CITIIS and assists the CITIIS PMU team and the Housing and Urban Development Department of the Government of Odisha in developing and implementing state-level capacity building programs in urban Odisha. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Liberal Studies from Ashoka University, Sonepat and a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Delhi. He has worked extensively and engaged with several non-profits and research-based organisations such as the Human Rights Law Network, Housing and Land Rights Network, Centre for Policy Research, Indian Institute for Human Settlements, etc. Before joining NIUA, he worked with Janaagraha where he was tasked with coordinating with the H&UDD-Odisha state leadership team to drive state-level urban reforms focused on strengthening the municipal finance ecosystem in the state and developing Municipal Shared Services models.

    Michael King works with progressive cities, campuses, and NGOs to invert the dominant auto-centric paradigm and advance a green mobility ethos. Trained in architecture and urban design, Michael taught himself transportation planning and traffic engineering because streets make up such a large percentage of the urban footprint and mobility is key to how we grow our economies, increase safety and combat climate change. Michael’s work has taken him to 20 states, 22 countries and 5 continents.

    Seetha Raghupathy received her Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard's Graduate School of Design and her Bachelor of Architecture from Anna University, India. She is the CEO of Seagull Studio, a master planning and architecture consultancy practice based in Chennai, India. She is also a senior consultant for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the CITIIS project with the National Institute of Urban Affairs. Seetha specializes in master planning and urban design and has more than 13 years of extensive experience in project design and delivery across India, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and USA. Her areas of expertise include townships, mixed use, airports, infill and urban revitalization, Transit-Oriented Developments, urban waterfronts, public housing and the development of detailed urban design guidelines. In addition to working with a range of public and private sector clients during her tenure as a Senior Urban Designer at the AECOM Singapore office, she has engaged in extensive community building efforts with the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has also explored the role of public art in urban design, co-curating an exhibition titled 'Mapping the Cityscape' at the Centre for Architecture, New York. Seetha has taught at the National University of Singapore, CEPT University, India, and Anna University, India.

    Dr. Pratap Kumar is a clinician, neuroscientist, health economist and entrepreneur working at the interface of health sciences and healthcare markets. His work focuses on innovations in technology, clinical processes and business models in healthcare delivery. He has a medical degree (Goa Medical College) and MPhil in Neurophysiology (NIMHANS) from India, a PhD in Neuroinformatics (University/ETH Zurich), and an MSc in International Health Policy & Health Economics (LSE). He moved to Kenya in 2012 and founded Health-E-Net Limited, a social enterprise working to improve access and quality of primary healthcare in low-resource settings. He is also a Senior Lecturer in Strathmore University Business School in Nairobi, where he works on innovation and entrepreneurship in global health. His awards include a ‘Stars in Global Health’ grant from Grand Challenges Canada in 2013 and the 2018 Global Health Innovation Prize. He holds two patents on medical documentation technologies, which are in commercial use across East Africa. Dr. Kumar designs and teaches courses in the MBA-Healthcare Management program at Strathmore University, and is the Nairobi lead on a unique executive education program in Global Health Innovation Management (www.sepghim.eu), a collaboration between three business and two public health schools across three continents. He combines rich experience across medicine, health economics, technology, and business into his work on improving health and healthcare system across the world.

  • Md Asif Raza
    Md Asif Raza is a Sr. Program Officer at the National Institute of Urban Affairs. His interests are in the field of multi-criteria urban analysis, urban development, climate change, data and urban systems and processes. He has over five years of experience in urban policy-focused action research. At NIUA, he is involved in the CITIIS project. In the CITIIS Program Management Unit team, Asif is responsible for overall program operations in the respective cities, coordinate & communicate across stakeholders, and assist in multiple tasks related to CITIIS program implementation & delivery. Before CITIIS, he was with the SDIC project team at NIUA, where he was responsible for objective deep-diving in data-driven processes, conduct strategic studies and process tracing of project components. He has developed & conducts specific training modules on data visualization and analytics. He enjoys exploring urban systems and understanding complex processes within the urban development projects lifecycle. Previously he was associated with Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He has also worked at Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy, CEPT University Ahmedabad. He has extensively worked on the development of a graduated benchmarking model for energy consumptions in commercial buildings in India; Assessment of the city level energy projections and savings potential; Literature reviews for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change; and Multi-criteria scenario development for cities. He is always ready for complex discussions around data and urban phenomena. Asif has three conference papers and three numbers of technical reports to his credit. Asif is an alumna of CEPT University Ahmedabad. He holds a Masters in Technology Degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

  • Suchit Ranjan Singh
    Suchit is the State Coordinator for Odisha under the CITIIS program at NIUA. In this role, he is working towards the capacity-building of ULBs in Odisha. He comes with three decades of experience in the development sector. He has been involved in training, research and the implementation of various projects in both urban and rural areas which have taken him to more than 11 states in India. He has also led disaster response projects supported by national and international agencies. Suchit completed his Post Graduation in Social Work from Utkal University and has undergone training in NGO Management at IIM, Kolkata. He has also been a part of a training course on Participatory Planning and Monitoring conducted by IDS, Sussex and Resettlement and Rehabilitation by ASCI, Hyderabad.

    Naim Keruwala, an economist by education is an Urban Management and Public Policy professional with over 12 years of diversified sector experience. He currently leads the CITIIS program as a Program Director. His other key engagements include: - Member of the Jury for India Smart Cities Award 2020 by MoHUA, Govt of India; Member of the Steering Committee for a Indo-French research project titled "Urban Governance in India through the prism of 100 Smart Cities Mission"; Team Lead for the "Inclusive Cities Civic Innovation Accelerator" project; and Visiting lecturer for Urban Economic Development at the Symbiosis School of Economics, Pune. As an avid commentator on urban issues, his research papers and articles have been published by UNESCO, Business Standard, Youth Policy Labs, CCDS and Cambridge Scholars among others. He is an Associate fellow of The Royal Commonwealth Society, a member of the Commonwealth Youth & Gender Equality Network (CYGEN) and an alumnus of Global Shapers Community and AIESEC respectively.     Bibek holds an MBA in Infrastructure Management from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and comes with over 10 years of work experience in urban infrastructure, sustainable mobility, housing, policy interventions, investment promotions and transaction advisory. Previously, he was associated with Ernst & Young in the Government Strategy and Transaction vertical and has worked with Development Authorities, Smart Cities and State Housing Boards.   • Manshi Singh
    Manshi Singh is a Program Officer for CITIIS at the National Institute of Urban Affairs. She is looking after the cities of Ujjain, Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar and is also working on designing CITIIS 2.0. She has more than six years of experience in the urban development sector. Previously, she worked at NITI Aayog, the premier think-tank of Government of India, and provided high quality inputs on various urban thematic areas like Solid Waste Management, Smart Cities, Water Recycling & Reuse, Urban Governance, Urban Housing and Transport. She coordinated various international and national conferences including the Second Phase of Urban Management Programme between NITI Aayog & Singapore Cooperation Enterprise. Manshi is also the Indian recipient of Australia Awards South and West Asia 2020 - Short Course on “Promoting Resilient and Sustainable Infrastructure Development”.
