The need for basic services such as drinking water, sanitation, drainage, housing, and electricity to guarantee a better quality of life has been recognised globally and nationally. Although various other initiatives, such as Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation- AMRUT (Scheme to provide basic amenities in urban India and launched in 2015), Smart City Mission (schemes launched in 2015 to provide infrastructure facilities to urban development), Heritage City Development & Augmentation Yojana- HRIDAY (Schemes launched in 2015 to facilitate infrastructure to the heritage cities development in India), and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihoods Mission- DAY-NULM ( Scheme launched in 2013 to Poverty Alleviation in urban India),etc., have been implemented in India, still many urban Indian households continue to be deprived of basic services, resulting in a low standard of living. Firstly, this paper addresses the disparity and unevenness in access to basic amenities among the social groups in urban India. Secondly, it addresses the disparity in the distribution of quality of amenities such as attached bathing and latrine facilities, drainage, pucca housing, and electricity connectivity among social groups in urban India. This study collected unit-level data from the National Sample Survey (NSS) 69th Round (2012) and 76th Round (2018) on Drinking Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Housing conditions in India to study the objectives mentioned above.
