  • This paper presents a comprehensive qualitative analysis based on action-based research carried out at the first women’s only state university in north India which is situated in Haryana. The goal was to establish effective waste management practices across the university’s vast 500-acre campus. A total of six focus group discussions were conducted with various stakeholders, pre- and post-intervention on waste management practices. The main aim was to analyse the evolving waste management practices which were implemented based on the focus group discussions to plan future pathways. The theoretical frameworks of planned behaviour and public participation, as well as the strategic sustainable waste management model for university systems are used for the study. The research highlighted the necessity of a robust waste management system that integrates composting, recycling, and other large-scale activities, while also being supported by a strong legal framework within universities.
