A stakeholder consultation was organized in September 2018 to seek advice on framing the Divyang Friendly Measures and Policy Recommendations that can be implemented through the Smart Cities Mission. National Institute of Urban Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs invited relevant stakeholders for this focus group discussion. The key recommendation that emerged from the consultation was the need for technical assistance at all levels of governance, in the accurate and successful adoption of Divyang friendly measures in Indian cities. It is in this context, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) has set-up a Technical Support Unit with support from Department for International Development (DFID) with aim to make Indian Cities more Accessible, Safe and Inclusive for all (especially people with disabilities).
