The City Climate Alliance is a collaborative initiative that harnesses the diverse skills, strengths, and resources of numerous organizations working with Indian cities. Its mission is to enhance and expand efforts in advocating for climate action, sharing knowledge, building capacity, fostering innovation, and mobilizing resources to tackle climate risks.

Initially formed with 26 organizations in 2019 that actively contributed to the creation of the ClimateSmart Cities Assessment Framework (now aligned with the National Mission for Sustainable Habitat), the alliance has now grown to include over 70 organizations *. The City Climate Alliance initiated by the Ministry and Housing Affairs, Government of India continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the climate dialogue and action within cities.

Secretariat

In June 2020, the Climate Centre for Cities (C-Cube) was given the mandate to manage the Alliance Secretariat and further strengthen the Alliance as a national-level multi-stakeholder partnership to facilitate and build urban climate action in India.

The Secretariat uses the instruments of CONNECT, COLLABORATE and CO-CREATE to aid climate actions in the cities.
