Introduction
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, launched a National Competition titled ‘Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge’. The Challenge, aptly launched on World Toilet Day, aims to prevent ‘hazardous cleaning’ of sewers and septic tanks and promote their mechanized cleaning. This challenge primarily focuses on creating citizen awareness and infrastructure creation for mechanized cleaning and capacity building of the workforce.
Objective
The challenge aims to aware, edify and build the capacity of people to promote the mechanized cleaning of sewers and septic tanks across India. The specific objectives of the challenge were:
- To promote mechanised cleaning process of septic tanks or sewers Public
- To create awareness at a huge scale
- To mechanize the process to ensure proper safe cleaning
- To ensure and protect the lives of Safaimitra
