The purpose of the Urban Flagship Missions is to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local area development and harnessing technology, especially technology that leads to Smart outcomes. Implemented By MoHUA. their main objective is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment and give a decent quality of life to their citizens.
They aim to drive economic growth and improve quality of life through comprehensive work on social, economic, physical and institutional pillars of the city. Missions:

India Habitat III National Report 2016
India explicitly recognizes the role and importance of urbanization and cities in the process of its socio-economic transformation, and affirms its commitment to the larger goals of urban equity and eradication of poverty; inclusive urban prosperity and opportunities for all; productivity, competitiveness, diversification and innovation; and urban resilience. The report, "India Habitat III National report 2016" lays out a brief account of the state of the urban sector and the challenges and complexities it faces, and outlines the initiatives and strategies that have been taken to address these.
