About the project

Realising the need for systematic comparisons across spatial scales, from the global to the very local, and between larger and smaller cities in and between countries, the SHLC research framework was designed to explore this multi-comparative challenge. This international, interdisciplinary project aims to build research knowledge in the UK, Asia, and Africa to address urbanisation challenges in developing countries.

Highlights

  1. Comparative study of urbanisation and residential segregation in 7 countries across Africa and Asia 
  2. More than 15,000 individuals participated in the survey, spanning over 74 select neighbourhoods in 14 cities in Asia and Africa
  3. One of the 37 major projects funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund, UKRI which aims to build research knowledge
