Debjani Ghosh


Associate Professor

Debjani Ghosh is an Associate Professor, National Institute of Urban Affairs, New Delhi. She has more than 20 years of professional experience in urban planning, capacity building and knowledge networking. She leads the projects related to sustainable planning and capacity building. Her interest and core area of work have been to engage with stakeholders working in knowledge exchange, sharing and management both within and outside India. Among others, she has led the PEARL (Peer Exchange and Reflective Learning) project, supported by the MoHUA and Cities Alliance, which is a networking platform of knowledge sharing among JNNURM cities; as well the South Asia Urban Knowledge Hub supported by ADB, whose primary aim was to promote evidence-based research in 4 South Asian countries to influence change in urban policies and practise through collaboration and knowledge management. Currently some of the projects she leads include the monitoring and assessment of Integrated Capacity Building Programme as a strategic partner for Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India; Morgenstadt Global Smart Cities Initiative with Kochi Smart City Limited and University of Stuttgart, Germany, supported by the German Federal Government and Capacity Building for Smart Data and Inclusive Cities in partnership with IDS Sussex, UK, supported by European Commission in 4 Smart Cities in India. She has represented her Institute in several national and international platforms to forward the agenda of cities’ knowledge networking and sharing among urban stakeholders. Debjani Ghosh is a social scientist and an alumna of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. She holds a Masters and PhD in Planning.
