Kanak Tiwari is an Urban Designer and Development Practitioner with 16 years of experience in the urban sector. At NIUA, she is the Project Coordinator for the Enabling Strategic Plan for the Master Plan of Delhi 2041. She was also Team Lead for the recently completed project on Child Friendly Smart Cities. Kanak has worked with government organizations, NGOs as well as international development agencies. She specializes in the areas of urban planning, urban governance, people’s participation in development, urban services and reforms, inclusive cities, smart urbanism, urban design and urban regeneration. Previously, Kanak has worked with the World Bank, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), Centre de Sciences Humaines, INTACH as well as NIUA. For over 10 year, she taught post-graduate students at School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) and Jamia Milia Islamia as visiting faculty. Kanak has published a number of papers on architecture and urbanism. She is an architect with an M Phil in Development Studies from University of Cambridge and Masters in Urban Design from SPA, New Delhi, for which she received the Commonwealth and the GATE scholarships respectively.
