Centre for Digital Governance

Centre Digital Governance

Over the past two decades, India has witnessed the role of technology as an enabler for development and progress. India is poised to lead the digital revolution and our cities can be the primary beneficiary. Our ability to seamlessly adopt emerging technologies into urban governance holds the key to a powerful story of transformation in India’s journey towards becoming an economic powerhouse. We need an anchor to tie the strengths of all stakeholders together.... Responding to this pressing necessity, National Institute of Urban Affairs instituted the Centre for Digital Governance (CDG), an initiative to convene the digital efforts of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and also consolidate its existing efforts. Envisioned to function as a trusted partner for distributed governance, CDG at NIUA will specifically tackle common requests from India’s states, cities and towns. CDG will be home to the ambitious National Urban Innovation stack – a shared digital infrastructure to drive the implementation of key digital initiatives in wide-ranging domains, including e-governance, capacity building and leadership development, data-driven urban transformation, procurement, research and innovation, among others. The launch of the Centre kick started two priority programs- National Urban Learning Platform and Citizen-Centric Smart Governance.Read more

Created with a vision to improve service delivery, build accountability and transform governance through use of digital technology across India, CDG will establish five practice areas to support State and City Governments, across six key initiatives:

  • To create model policies and frameworks for digital governance and build and nurture leadership capacities in urban professionals
  • To provide critical digital infrastructure as a public good
  • To forge strategic linkages to galvanise the ecosystem
  • To provide program design and strategic advisory services
  • To build a shared narrative on digital technology for urban development
