1 NIUA Hindi Samvaad: National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) promotes the use of Hindi in accordance with the official Language Policy of the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs. A Hindi Magazine “SAMVAAD” is published from NIUA in January and July each calendar year, containing articles and matter related to on-going research work in the Institute. The magazine also contains poems, stories and other issues related to urban development written by staff of NIUA.

Private Sector Engagement for Building Sustainable Cities: Developed in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), this study report aims to understand and analyse the dynamics of engagement with the private sector in supporting the public sector for building sustainable cities. The report will serve as valuable learning to understand aspects of private sector engagement, which will enable cities to provide its residents with better opportunities, increased access to essential services and infrastructure, and a better quality of life.

Enabling the shift to electric auto rickshaws: Developed in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI - India), this guidebook for electrification of autorickshaw fleets in Indian cities aims to highlight measures to mitigate existing regulatory and ecosystem issues and provide a roadmap for cities to enable accelerated e-auto adoption. This resource will aid in accelerating the shift toward sustainable and electrified urban mobility.

Procurement Toolkit for the Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB): This toolkit has been prepared to support OSHB in carrying out end-to-end procurement of goods, works and services. It highlights important aspects of public procurement, and presents stage-wise guidelines and good practices that can be followed to ensure a systematic, efficient and fair procurement process.

Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation and evaluation toolkit for the Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB): The toolkit aims to be a ready reckoner for the OSHB with respect to the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for EPC and PPP projects as well as the evaluation of various project reports. The document presents a step-by-step DPR preparation process that can be adopted to streamline construction activities for projects of different scales to be constructed in the EPC/PPP modes.

Urban 20 Priorities: Background Research and Good Practices: The report is a compilation of vital data, statistics related to U20 India's priorities. It contains relevant case studies that provide a real-world perspective on the challenges and opportunities of the six priority areas: 'encouraging environmentally responsible behaviours,' 'accelerating climate finance,' 'ensuring water security,' 'promoting local culture and economy,' 'reinventing frameworks for urban governance and planning,' and 'catalysing digital urban futures.' By combining concrete data with insightful case studies, this report offers innovative solutions and best practices to foster sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban development.

Creating Accessible Parks and Play Spaces” Play Handbook: is a collaborative initiative of the Child Friendly Smart Cities (CFSC) initiative at NIUA and Gudgudee, a design studio. It represents a culmination of an extensive research on early childhood and the incorporation of best practices in creating play spaces for children. It serves as a comprehensive toolkit, offering interventions to enhance the accessibility, inclusivity, and overall enjoyment of play spaces for all children. It contains innovative design ideas tailored to meet the unique needs of Indian communities. The guide is user-friendly, catering to decision-makers, elected representatives, park designers, and communities at large. It is an invaluable tool for parents, teachers, and caregivers alike, fostering a collaborative approach to creating play spaces that enrich the lives of children across India.

Managing Shallow Aquifers in Cities:  The overarching objective of this project is to create an enabling environment for mainstreaming shallow aquifer management in a city’s water management strategy. It focuses on interventions aimed towards developing water secure cities through the restoration of the shallow (unconfined /phreatic) aquifers, which have stood the test of time in India’s long-standing water history.
