ECOSYSTEM-BASED ADAPTATION (EbA) The most common approaches to cope with water shortage as a result of global climate change, are focussed on ‘hard’ or ‘grey’ infrastructure options, such as building embankments for flood control or new reservoirs. These options are usually costly to build and maintain. In addition, some of these approaches also have a negative impact on the natural environment. Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA), focussed on the conservation, sustainable management and restoration of ecosystems, are cost-effective solutions that can support in climate change adaptation.
