To fulfill the aim of increasing opportunities for young urban professionals and to empower them for their future careers in the urban sector, NIUA has initiated an Externship Programme. The programme will provide an opportunity to take concepts learned in the classroom and apply them to a specific working environment both inside the office and with communities. It increases the professionals’ awareness of urban issues and motivates them to apply their skills directly into the working environment. The sheer magnitude of responses that NIUA receives to its vacancy announcements are indicative of the perception that NIUA is an organization that provides a good learning platform to young professionals. By developing an internal Externship Program, NIUA and ICLEI South Asia aim to train fresh postgraduates to be responsive to work environments, comprehend ethical practices related to professional development, and gain hands-on training and mentoring in urban development practice.
