The impacts of climate change are increasingly felt worldwide. Threats come in form of more intense heatwaves and droughts, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events. Such impacts particularly affect lower-income countries, where populations depend heavily on their natural environment and have only low resources to adapt to and cope with changing climatic conditions. Some areas that currently provide livelihoods to subsistence farmers, fishers, or urban dwellers could become uninhabitable in the future. Under these circumstances, migration from affected areas can be the only feasible strategy for affected households to ensure survival. This webinar explores the linkages between climate change, adaptation and migration bringing together policy makers, practitioners, and scientific experts. Building on recent evidence and case studies, speakers and panelist will discuss the implications of climate change and highlight adaptation challenges and the role of climate-induced migration for affected communities.

GIZ India collaborated with CEPT University to publish a compilation of ideas to tackle covid-crisis in urban areas through a series of guidebooks titled “Back to the City”. The guidebooks highlight the criticality of public spaces in our cities and the need for new protocols that we must adhere to in these spaces. The compendium is useful for government, citizens and private stakeholders as it lays down responsibilities for COVID responsive cities. To take the conversation forward on these guidebooks, a webinar is scheduled on 08 December 2020, Tuesday from 03:00-05:00 pm IST on MS Teams platform. Objective of the webinar is to promote COVID safe distancing protocols in cities and learn from experiences of the key city stakeholders.

The webinar will showcase the findings of a study undertaken by SHLC team in collaboration with World Vision India. The study based on telephone survey was undertaken to provide an understanding of the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and the nationwide lockdown on the lives and livelihoods of the urban poor in select cities and peri-urban areas in India. The telephone survey was conducted during April 24 – May 7, 2020.
